Waipara
Not to be confused with North Island’s similarly name Wairarapa (this one just has less syllables) has a cool climate and makes sensational Riesling and is another region that is making good Pinot Noir. There may only be 48 wineries here, but that number has doubled in the last five years and things look good

Nelson is New Zealand’s sunniest wine region although it is a little cooler that nearby Marlborough, with rolling hills and a climate that is heavily influenced by it’s proximity to the sea it is unsurprising that varieties that like cool climates and long growing seasons do particularly well.
